Show Business

My first experience in theatre was at age 15 as an apprentice with the theatre company, “Le Maschere”, run by the Padua University. After some years of politically oriented street-theatre around Tuscany, with the “Teatro dei Ciompi” group, I took part in the final performances of the “Theatre Planning Workshop” directed by Luca Ronconi in Prato, and then in avant-garde and traditional theatres in Rome.

While discovering New York in 1984, after an English diction class at “HB Studio” directed by Herbert Berghof, I made my debut at “La Mama” theatre with “Dog’s Eye View” by the multi-award-winner author/director John Jesurun. After that, I started performing in other off-off-Broadway theaters, especially at the “Theatre for the New City”, directed by Crystal Field, which specialized in launching new talents. Here, I also helped with PR. As well as theatre, I also took part in many indie movie productions in New York.

After a long period as a trans-continental commuter, I permanently moved back to Italy to work with the European tour of the “Living Theatre” show, “Rules of Civility”. Since then, I’ve worked mainly in Tuscany with fluctuating fortune; playing various roles with Pietro Bartolini, Andrea Mancini, Claudio Ascoli (of “Chille della Balanza”), Massimo Smuraglia, Margherita Ferraris, and Alessandro Riccio in theaters, schools and clubs as well as in unusual places like gardens and prisons. I’ve played in Italian, English, French, Spanish and – just in minor roles – German, Greek and Danish. I have now reached a sort of “Sunset Boulevard” age but … I have no wish to run it through!
